recipes." This question is from those diabetics who are very

and weight numbers down even further. These people are at the heart
of the group of "success stories."

Might Look Like This
Let's face it. There's no such thing as the perfect "properly"
stocked kitchen. What's proper for one family will not necessarily
be proper for another. Individual food preferences, family size,
budgetary limitations, and many other factors will influence what
ought to be in any kitchen. But just so that you can see what
healthy foods a diabetic's "longevity kitchen" might contain, we
present the following lists of the BASICS that you can add to and
build those outstanding healthy meals.

IN THE REFRIGERATOR:
Vegetables; Fresh lettuce, tomatoes, onions, green peppers, and
mushrooms. Other vegetables in season; Leftover cooked vegetables
Grain Foods: Sourdough Starter; Fresh cornmeal, fresh wheat
berries; Leftover pancakes; Leftover cooked rice and beans
Fresh and hard-boiled eggs (only the whites are used)
Dairy Products: Skim milk; Fresh Cheeses; Cottage Cheeses; Cream
Cheese; Sour Cream; Yogurt
Miscellaneous cheeses: Echtarharkase cheese, green cheese, moldy
blue cheese (used in small quantity to flavor Blue Cheese Dressing)
Beverages and Fruits: Lemons and limes and bananas etc.; Orange
juice (easy on the OJ) apple juice, tomato juice, Whey Lemonade,
etc.
Condiments: Hamburger Sauce; Chili Salsa; Taco Salsa; Leftover
canned California green chilies Pimientos

IN THE FREEZER:
Fruits and Vegetables: Bags and cartons of frozen of vegetables:
corn, limas, peas, broccoli, etc. (Some of the most amazing STAPLES
for meals are found here); Bags and cartons of frozen berries:
blueberries, blackberries, strawberries, etc.
Meats: Lean Beef steaks (sirloin, round, etc.); Leanest ground
beef; Fish filets; Chicken and turkey breasts; Lamb bones; extra
lean Beef Sausage; Mock Pork Sausage
Soups: Stocks, Sauces: Bags of ice cubes of frozen Bean-Thickened
Gravy, beef stock, Chicken Stock, etc.; Jars of spaghetti sauces,
soups, stocks, salsas, etc.
Cheeses: Cottage Cheese; Homemade Hoop Cheese; Fresh Cheese
Breads: Pita Bread; Sourdough Bread and Biscuits; Corn tortillas
Miscellaneous Items in Baggies: Chopped onions; Chopped green
peppers; Lemon peels

IN THE CUPBOARDS
Spices: Dried Chilies; Canned Goods (packed without simple
carbohydrates gremlins); Condensed skim milk; Tomatoes, tomato
paste, tomato juice; Canned California green chilies juices (fruit
and vegetable); Canned fruits (mandarin oranges, pineapple,
peaches, etc.); Vegetables (beans, green beans, corn, potatoes,
etc.); caned Meats (tuna, salmon)
Crackers: (Norwegian flat bread, matzo crackers, etc.)
Pasta: (Macaroni, spaghetti, noodles, etc.)
Cereals: Hot cereals (Wheat Hearts, Quaker Oats, etc.); Cold
Cereals (Shredded Wheat, Grape-Nuts, etc.); Grains (oats, wheat
berries, etc.)
Staples: Flours and starches (all kinds); Special staples: (yeast,
junket, pectin, gelatin); Vinegar
Dried Foods: Beans (red, black, navy, pinto, kidney, etc.); Rice
(brown rice, wild rice)Barley

SITTING OUT
Bowls of: Ripening Fruit; Bag of Potatoes; Bag of
Onions; Garlic
